I think the defintion of ‘honour’ in this sense is not vagina. The family reputation rests on producing submissive women like Ford’s rests on producing reliable cars. If the reputation is gone, so is all the money, power and status that men derive from supplying domesticated women to their friends and alllies. Women are objects of transaction. So-called ‘honour’ like is a kitemark: a guarantee that means you can’t transact a woman without it.

People love to talk about defending their honor and protecting their female relatives, yet when these same relatives are abused, beaten, humiliated by male relatives, honor is somehow forgotten, as is basic human dignity.This concept of "honor" in our society is truly ridiculous.

The worst of these "honor" crimes are the ones committed by people against rape/sexual abuse victims. First, the poor girl/woman has to endure the pain of being assaulted, and then she has to fear for her life, because somehow her relatives will conclude that it was her fault.

Will we never change?

This is the problem when you reduce such a wonderful concept of honour to mere protection of a body part and a thin piece of skin at that. The hymen doesn’t even protect itself well and is easily broken anyway.

The personal honour of cherishing your body and only wanting to share it with someone worthwhile becomes another facade. While the vagina may be forbidden territory, other areas of the body are public property. So much for purity.

People cling to fascimilies, because true honour and sincerity are so rare in any area of society.
