Bio
A Leo born in the year of the rat, I have a passion for living and most things serial. In addition to that, I try to write a lot but apparently I do not write enough to compose the book I have always wanted to write.
I am a Jordanian-Circassian woman living in Amman, Jordan. My father is from Karak, a city in the South, and my mother is Circassian, the daughter of immigrants who settled in Amman in the early 20th century. My parents came from totally different backgrounds to produce me, and living up to that hybrid status has always been a concern of mine. You have to bring something new to the equation, you know? I like to think that I have done that.
Books, antiques, animals, food, orange juice, dance, music, spirituality, life, culture, people, mythology, art, and languages all interest me in varying degrees. I was a Modern Languages student and now I am an American Studies ‘expert in the making’. I once worked in a concentration camp in Shmesani with a fellow who thought he was a vampire and for a bunch of drunken old Germans. I worked in other places as well, but none as interesting as that so you don’t get to know about them.
I don’t enjoy loud people, stupid people, sexist people, and narrow-minded people. I don’t jibe with control freaks because I probably am one underneath my calm girly voice. I’ve had people call me a condescending bitch, high maintenance, feminist, liberal, playful, paranoid, too serious, whimsical, best friend, sophisticated, introvert, nerd, shy, depressing, stylish, fun, weird, bipolar, domineering, ohmygod, exotic, morbid, funny, and witty. I don’t think any of that is necessarily true, but I do have some dramatic mood swings.
I love intelligent conversations, cream soda, absorbing books, things horrorish and unusual, exotic items, piercings and tattoos, alone time, and speeding. I champion women’s causes and I like to ridicule social and religious nonsense. On a good day, I range from insolent to aggressive. However, I am in general a tolerable person and I can be talkative and amusing.
I started blogging in January 2004, and ever since then I blog-jumped two sites, this being the third. When I started, I used to blog in between lectures and for my eyes only. A year or so later, I took blogging more seriously, and here I am today. If you read my blog, you will notice I have changed my mind about a lot of issues over time. That is called growing up. Enjoy Tololy’s Box.
